Winter storm clouds dumped more snow across the Wasatch Front Thursday with a new storm set to keep it coming through the weekend.
Though Salt Lake Valley areas only saw snow accumulations up to about 5 inches, Park City had 10 inches of snow by Thursday night and areas in North Salt Lake raked in up to 9 inches in some areas. Snowbird ski resort topped snow lists Thursday with 20 inches of powder by the end of the day.
Though the National Weather Service forecast Thursday's storm to taper off by Friday morning, a second snow-filled storm coming in from California is expected to hit Salt Lake City by late Friday afternoon.
"There has been a lot of wet weather in the area," said meteorologist Linda Cheng of the National Weather Service station in Salt Lake City. "January is usually pretty stagnant, but it's been kind of active this year."
Cheng added that there's a high chance of more snow everyday this weekend, with the heaviest dump expected Friday night. Strong winds will also sail through Salt Lake City Friday night and a winter storm warning is in effect for south-central Utah.
The constant snowfall subdued drivers Thursday, keeping them from driving too fast during the morning commute. In fact, motorists on the commute from Davis County through Salt Lake County crept along at 2 mph and came to a standstill frequently.
Some drivers still managed to crash, however, and some slid off the roadway.
In Salt Lake County, the Utah Highway Patrol reported 36 property-damage accidents, nine injury accidents and 10 slide-offs early Thursday. Utah County reported 19 property-damage accidents, two injury accidents and six slideoffs. In Davis County, there were 28 crashes and 12 slideoffs. Weber County reported 37 crashes with no injuries.
