The numbers: Without stars Chris Miles and Matt Pinegar around, Mortensen has blossomed this season and has become the top-ranked T-Birds' go-to guy. The Marquette-bound senior is averaging almost 21 points per game and sinking more than two 3-pointers per contest. He led the T-Birds to the final game of the Arby's Classic last week in Tennessee by scoring 21, 25 and 34 points in the tournament's first three rounds.

Sandy Marvin

Payson Lions

Sport: Basketball

Class: Senior

Position: 5-foot-5 guard

The numbers: Marvin has been one of the state's top scorers for three straight seasons. In leading the Lions to a perfect record so far this season, she's averaging almost 21 points and two 3-pointers per game. In guiding the Lions to the title of the San Diego Surf and Slam Championship last week, the feisty and hustling court leader scored 13 points in the opening blowout win, 19 in the semifinal victory and a game-high 27 in the title game against Alameda.
