MAGNA One person was killed and several others injured Tuesday night in a three-car accident on U-201 at 12300 West.
Killed was:
Brian McKane, 51, South Jordan.
About 7:45 p.m., a westbound car went across the center and collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle driven by McKane. The SUV rolled off the side of the road and the driver and passengers were trapped, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Wade Breur said.
A third vehicle travelling eastbound struck the westbound car that was in the middle of the road, Breur said.
McKane and the driver of the westbound car were airlifted to University Hospital, where McKane later died. The other driver, who was in critical condition, was being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol, Breur said.
A 36-year-old woman in the SUV was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital. An 11-year-old boy was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center. Their conditions were serious but not life-threatening, Breur said.
The driver of the third car, a 29-year-old woman, was expected to be transported to a hospital by family, Breur said.
U-201 was closed for investigation and cleanup for about three hours. Traffic was diverted to I-80, Breur said.
