TUBERVILLE DEAL: Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville has agreed in principle to a new seven-year contract worth $16 million.

Tuberville, the AP Coach of the Year, led the third-ranked Tigers to a 12-0 regular season and its first Southeastern Conference championship in 15 years. They are playing Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3.

"We have almost finished a new contract, and I'm excited about that," Tuberville said Monday after his team arrived in New Orleans for its bowl game. "I'm excited about the future."

MILTON SIGNS WITH REDS: The Yankees came calling on Eric Milton. The big-budget Red Sox and Dodgers also were interested in adding the left-hander to their playoff-caliber clubs. In the end he made a surprising choice: the late-arriving, small-market Cincinnati Reds. Milton agreed to a $25.5 million, three-year deal on Monday.

ALOUS REUNITED: Baseball brought Felipe and Moises Alou together more than a decade ago in Montreal, and now father and son are reunited again. The San Francisco Giants finalized a two-year contract with Moises Alou on Monday, meaning he'll again play for his father, manager Felipe Alou. "I'm just happy for the opportunity to join my dad again," Moises said.

CUBS, HOLLANDSWORTH AGREE: The Chicago Cubs agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Todd Hollandsworth on Monday, avoiding arbitration. Hollandsworth was a key member of Chicago's bench last year, hitting .318 with eight homers and 22 RBIs in 57 games. He started 26 games in right field when Sammy Sosa was out with a back injury.
