EAGLE MOUNTAIN Eagle Mountain has removed a lid on political campaign contributions that was among the most restrictive in the state.
Eagle Mountain, a tiny town about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City, was one of only three cities that capped contributions at the local level, state elections officials said.
But that cap was a mere $500 compared with limits in the thousands in cities such as Salt Lake City and Alta.
Eagle Mountain City Councilman Mark Madsen said he supported getting rid of the cap because it limits free speech and closes off government.
The city's next municipal election is more than 10 months away.
