VINEYARD (AP) — The first, and thus far the only, mayor of the Utah County town of Vineyard is resigning.

J. Rulon Gammon has been mayor since 1989. He announced Thursday that he has sold his Vineyard dairy farm and will move to Pleasant Grove.

His resignation takes effect Jan. 1.

The new mayor for the small agricultural community incorporated around the Geneva Steel industrial complex is likely to be named on Jan. 20 at a town council meeting.
