Question: Aunt Pearl, can you tell us about the Farley Family's favorite holiday traditions?
Answer: The Farleys just adores Christmas. Not a-d-o-r-e-s, I mean we 'a doors' Christmas. When we was young we would have an 'a dooring' Christmas. We'd put stickers and things on our bedroom door, you know, to decorate them (mama always picked my door, cause I was the girl). The boys never put stickers on their doors. Mama would get upset cause we never had wrapping paper left for presents on account that we used it on the doors. So, we would put brown bags (you know them shopping bags) in front of the Christmas tree with our names on them and people would put your presents in them . . . until the house burnt down."
Question: That's a shame. Are there any other Christmas memories you'd like to share?
Answer: One year we hanged lights on the telephone pole outside and not on a tree. It was so impressive we had a reporter come and do a story on us.
Question: Do you have any hints on how to decorate the Christmas tree?
Answer: We trys to find them aluminum foil icicles. We put a bunch over our index finger and have a count down like ya do, you know 10, 9, 8 until when we get to 1, then we all at once toss it on the tree and there it lands and there it stays. It's like no tree you've ever seen."
Question: What kind of lights do you like on the tree, colored or clear white?
Answer: I prefer color lights. It shows more color. Nothing in nature is clear, less maybe icicles. Colored lights represents nature: blue for the sea, green for the forest, orange for oranges, white (if you have 'em) for mountain glaciers, and red for the blood of the Farley Family.
Question: Aunt Pearl, do you have a favorite Christmas ornament?
Answer: Oh my, yes, it's the angel on top of the Christmas tree. We rescued it from the Bargain Basement for $2. That ornamentation was happy as can be comin' to our house.
Question: Do you have a Nativity?
