Jack Greaves (Reader's Forum, Dec. 8) has to be kidding. For him to insinuate that Ken Jennings' final game of "Jeopardy!" was anything less than honest is to do Jennings, the show and its many fans a great disservice.
First of all, the correct answer of "H&R Block," which Jennings missed, wasn't as obvious as Greaves makes it sound. Nancy Zerg (the woman who defeated Jennings) attributed her correct guess to the fact she had a friend who was a tax accountant. Jennings, on the other hand, like many people, does his own taxes. He wasn't thinking along the lines of the first four months of the year. Instead, he probably was thinking of a large company that sees a big increase in business when many Christmas packages are shipped.
Greaves' second-guessing whether he was really trying to win is like saying Joe DiMaggio tried to hit the ball right at a defensive player all four times he batted on the day his 56-game hitting streak ended.
Give Ken a break. His streak, in my opinion, is as unbeatable as DiMaggio's.
