Gov.-elect Jon Huntsman Jr. has named Michael S. Lee, son of the late BYU president Rex Lee, as his legal counsel in the governor's office, Huntsman's office announced Wednesday.

Lee joins a growing personal staff that will advise Huntsman on a daily basis after he takes office in January.

Lee received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1994; a law degree from the school in 1997. He was BYU student body president from 1993-94.

He then served two federal court clerkships, one for Judge Dee Benson in Utah, another for Judge Samuel Alito Jr. on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.

In October 2002, he became an assistant U.S. Attorney in Utah, handling criminal cases before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Lee and his wife, Sharon, have three children and live in Cedar Hills.
