U.S. team wins Cup race

Good starts pushed Joe McDonald and Hoy Thurmond into the winner's circle Tuesday during the second day of America's Cup bobsled racing at the Utah Olympic Park.

McDonald, driving USA 1 and with a different brakeman, finished third on Monday.

Jiri Ozmura and Peter Kondrat of Slovenia, the winning team on Monday, finished second.

The Americans' time was 1:42.45, compared with 1:42.54 for the two runs by the Slovenian team.

Dallas Butchar and Louis Poerier of Canada finished third with a time of 1:42.99.

The Utah team of Jeremy Holm and Mark Richins, driving USA VII, finished 17th.

Racing will resume on Friday at 3 p.m. with the men's four-man, the women's two-person and skeleton.
