As I read Fred Ball's letter about retiring Adrian Dantley's number, I couldn't help but wonder, "Which Jazz team was he watching?" Adrian Dantley was on the original Utah Jazz roster, not brought in later to save the team. The Jazz started winning when they added good team players to the roster, let Frank Layden coach and were bought by Larry Miller. They got much better when they launched Dantley and let Karl Malone develop as a player.
I agree that Dantley should have his number retired, but please, don't pretend he was the one who turned things around.
