Taxes average $1,365 on a $200,000 home in Davis County, up 0.8 percent from last year. Next year's rate is expected to jump after voters passed a bond to fund an expansion of the Davis County Jail.

Of the 56 taxing districts in Davis County, five had lower taxes this year and 50 saw them increase.

If you're a typical homeowner in Salt Lake County, you've been seeing a 2-4 percent yearly increase in your home's assessed value for tax purposes (which basically tracks market value), county assessor Lee Gardner said.

"We're seeing a slow and steady increase," he said," but many neighborhoods see a decrease."

In one recent year, market value for homes on the county's east side generally went up, while values for west-side homes generally went down, Gardner said.

Apparently Salt Lake County residents are somewhat more satisfied with their assessed values. Appeals of assessed valuations (which run somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000 per year) decreased by 5 percent this year.

Nearly 1,400 Davis County residents appealed the assessed value of their homes.
