The driver of a car involved in a double-fatal accident in June 2002 has pleaded guilty to one count of transporting illegal aliens resulting in death.
Isidro Aranda-Flores admit- ted as part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors that the four passengers in his vehicle at the time of the accident were illegal aliens en route to Pennsylvania. One passenger, 62-year-old Bernarda Gordillo, died in the collision on Highway 191 near Monticello. The driver of the oncoming car, Travis Smith, was also killed in the accident. Smith, 19, was from Mesa, Ariz.
Aranda-Flores, 23, is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 5. He faces up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
