5 nominated for court post

The 3rd District Judicial Nominating Commission has chosen five people as nominees for a judicial vacancy in the district. The individual selected will replace 3rd District Judge Frank Noel, who is retiring in February 2005. The nominees:

• Robert W. Adkins, Coalville, an attorney.

• Susan C. Bradford, Salt Lake City, 3rd District Court commissioner.

• Carlos A. Esqueda, West Jordan, assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office.

• Carolyn Nichols, Salt Lake City, assistant attorney general for the Utah Attorney General's Office.

• Paula K. Smith, Salt Lake City, deputy district attorney for Salt Lake County.

A public comment period will be held until Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. After that, the names will be submitted to Gov. Olene Walker, who will choose a finalist. The finalist ultimately will need confirmation from the Utah Senate.
