PROVO The tiny Cedar Valley community of Fairfield has the official go ahead to incorporate.
Utah County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the petition that would create the 24th municipality in the county.
Resident Lynn Gillies, who is expected to be named mayor, said he and his neighbors are excited to have the opportunity to shape the area's destiny.
"We're excited. It's something we're all looking forward to," Gillies said, following the vote. "We'll be able to make our own decisions, and we're a small enough community we can have everybody involved. Everybody will have a say in what we do."
The commission will appoint the mayor and council members in the Dec. 7 meeting after which the new council will draw up articles of incorporation and file those along with a plat with the county recorder.
