PROVO The Rev. Dean Jackson, pastor of the Rock Canyon Assembly of God Church in Provo, was named Utah Communicator of the Year at the annual Golden Spike Awards luncheon, held Wednesday by the Utah chapters of the Public Relations Society of America and the International Association of Business Communicators.
Former U.S. Sen. Jake Garn presented the award to the Rev. Jackson's wife, Marlys, because the reverend was out of town.
Garn said the Rev. Jackson received the award for his community service, as well as his work to create unity between his congregation and the surrounding community, which predominately belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Rev. Jackson currently serves on more than a dozen community councils and boards.
