Utah County Preps of the Week

Paige Palmer

Lone Peak Knights

Sport: Volleyball

Class: Senior

Position: Outside hitter

The numbers: The Knights had a balanced attack this season, especially on the front line, but Palmer's play at last week's state 4A tournament stood out enough that she was named the tournament MVP. In the final match against the Pleasant Grove Vikings, in which the Knights won the state title, she had 10 kills. In the semifinals win over Provo, she had 16 kills and four aces. Palmer, at 5-feet-7, will take her skills to Idaho State University next season.

Luke Ashworth

Timpview Thunderbirds

Sport: Football

Class: Senior

Position: Wide receiver

The numbers: Ashworth is the hidden treasure for the T-Birds. With quarterback Stephen Covey and running back Harvey Unga getting most of the attention, Ashworth's contribution often gets overlooked. He has 59 catches this season and is averaging more than 17 yards per reception. He leads all of Utah preps this season in touchdown receptions with 16. In last week's quarterfinal win over Mountain View he caught eight balls for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
