Rocky seeks backing of council for his agenda

Mayor to present his 9-point Capitol agenda to City Council tonight

• Allowing unmarried couples to adopt children.

• Increasing criminal penalties for illegal use of firearms, allowing cities to adopt their own firearms laws and forcing gun owners to use trigger locks or safes.

• Supporting efforts to enact hate crimes legislation.

Love said she feels strongly about many of Anderson's causes but, like Lambert, isn't convinced that city tax dollars should champion those causes.

"Some of them I care so much about that I might even join the mayor at the Capitol and lobby myself, but do I think that it's appropriate for us to send our city attorney and spend tax dollars to lobby on these issues? Probably not," Love said.

"Our council doesn't understand what cities all around the country are doing on these sorts of issues," Anderson said. "Mayors and even city councils are oftentimes very involved in trying to create a better quality of life for their residents."
