Federal prosecutors on Friday charged a Provo business with harboring illegal aliens.
The single criminal count arises from a Feb. 19, 2003, raid at Champion Safe Co. in which 107 employees were arrested. Charging documents name 24 individuals the company allegedly concealed, harbored and shielded from detection.
Attempts to reach Champion Safe officials Friday evening were unsuccessful.
One former employee, Johnny Vega, has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Vega, a U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico, claims federal agents unconstitutionally detained him during the raid because of his race.
The raid at Champion Safe followed a December 2001 roundup of 271 undocumented workers at Salt Lake City International Airport.
