With Drisdom out, Jackson takes over point-guard slot

Published: Friday, Nov. 5 2004 12:00 a.m. MST

Utah guard Tim Drisdom, who has started 65 games for the Utes over the past two years, will miss Saturday's exhibition game against Carroll College.

Drisdom sprained his ankle during a scrimmage at last week's Night With the Runnin' Utes. He was expected to be out about a week, but he hasn't practiced yet this week and won't start practicing until early next week, according to U. officials.

With Drisdom out, the Utes will start with Marc Jackson at the point with Richard Chaney moving over to the shooting guard spot for the opening game. The Utes are also expected to start Jonas Langvad and Bryant Markson at the forward positions with Andrew Bogut in the middle.

Sophomore forward Justin Hawkins will come off the bench along with Chris Jackson and newcomers Luke Nevill, Jermaine Calvin, Jake Schmidt and Casey Iverson.

Saturday's game against the NAIA school that plays in the same conference as Westminster College, begins at 4 p.m. at the Huntsman Center.

The game time was moved up to accommodate the Utah-Colorado State football game at 7:45 p.m. that evening.

The Utes will play another exhibition the following Saturday against Western State College at noon. Utah's first official game will be Nov. 19 against Stony Brook.

UTE NOTES: Utah has finalized its TV schedule with a minimum of nine games being aired on national or regional television this season, including two appearances on ESPN's "Big Monday."
