With Corroon winning the county's top spot and Jenny Wilson unseating incumbent Republican Councilman Steve Harmsen, Democrats made significant inroads into Salt Lake County government on Election Day. Of the nine council seats, Democrats now hold all three at-large seats and one district seat.

"Now we have to be honest to what we said," county party chairwoman Nichole Adams said. "My job now is to be as critical of our own Democrats as we were of the Republicans."

Corroon said he plans to become immediately involved in the county's upcoming budget process and would welcome a provisional office if it were offered to him.

"I will work tirelessly to bring better, more efficient, more accountable, more open government," he said. "I will make our residents proud to be a citizen of Salt Lake County."

And it's not going to be easy, Ivory said.

"(Corroon) has a bigger mess down there than I think even he knows," he said. "There are gaping areas there waiting for repair. It's going to be a huge challenge."
