Coalition of La Raza honors 5 leaders

Utah Coalition of La Raza honored five local community leaders for their dedicated service and commitment to the Hispanic/Latino community at an awards ceremony held Friday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City.

• Jorge J. Arce-Larreta, a founding member of SOCIO, an honorary consul of Peru, and president and chief executive officer of Alliance Community Services, a multi-ethnic consulting firm.

• Ernesto "Kiko" Cornejo, founder of the Utah Minority and Education Center.

• Yvette Donosso Diaz was recently elected as the youngest and first Latina State Bar commissioner.

• Orlando A. Rivera has created a number of nonprofit organizations to provide social services to the Hispanic community at large and to also rehabilitate Hispanic/Latino youths involved in the criminal justice system. Rivera is the associate vice president of academic affairs at the University of Utah.

• Pamela Candia Hernandez has worked for more than 25 years in the areas of post-secondary education and on behalf of the migrant farmworkers of Utah. She currently serves as diversity/ADA manager of Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College in Ogden.
