Utah Coalition of La Raza honored five local community leaders for their dedicated service and commitment to the Hispanic/Latino community at an awards ceremony held Friday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City.
Those honored at the 12th annual Cesar Chavez Awards and Banquet are: Jorge J. Arce-Larreta, a founding member of SOCIO, an honorary consul of Peru, and president and chief executive officer of Alliance Community Services, a multi-ethnic consulting firm.
Ernesto "Kiko" Cornejo, founder of the Utah Minority and Education Center.
Yvette Donosso Diaz was recently elected as the youngest and first Latina State Bar commissioner.
Orlando A. Rivera has created a number of nonprofit organizations to provide social services to the Hispanic community at large and to also rehabilitate Hispanic/Latino youths involved in the criminal justice system. Rivera is the associate vice president of academic affairs at the University of Utah.
Pamela Candia Hernandez has worked for more than 25 years in the areas of post-secondary education and on behalf of the migrant farmworkers of Utah. She currently serves as diversity/ADA manager of Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College in Ogden.
