"INTO THE WOODS," James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's innovative spin on familiar fairy tales, is playing Thursday through Nov. 14 in the Jay W. Lees Courage Theatre of Westminster College's Jewett Center for the Performing Arts, 1250 E. 1700 South. Michael Vought is directing with choreography by Jen Rouse and musical direction by Chris Quinn.
The cast includes Gabriela Walton as the narrator, Andy Larson and Alyssa Powers as the Baker and his wife, Jason Davis as Jack (the kid who plants the famous beanstalk), Mary Ann Dresher as Jack's mother, Candace Conyers as Little Red, Sarah Kaelin as Cinderella, Ashley Hebrew as Sleeping Beauty, Rachel Glade as Rapunzel, Justin B. Olsen as both the wolf and Rapunzel's prince, and Andrew Waterhouse as Cinderella's prince.
Curtain is 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays-Saturdays, with Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $7 for students or senior citizens (832-2455 or 832-2457).
"BUS STOP," William Inge's romantic comedy about a busload of passengers stranded during a blizzard at a Kansas diner, is being staged Wednesday through Nov. 20 in the Margetts Theatre of Brigham Young University's Harris Fine Arts Center, Provo.
Directed by Tim Threlfall, the cast features six graduating seniors in BYU's acting program, including Lauren Richmond as nightclub singer Cherie (played by Marilyn Monroe in the mid-1950s film version), and Cort Kirksey as rodeo contestant Bo, a Montana cowboy who attempts to get Cherie to marry him.
Others in the cast are Logan Miller as Bo's sidekick, Virgil; Amanda Schutz as Grace, who runs the remote diner, and Ashley Ogzewalla, Clay Bunker, Kevin Goertzen and Adam Daveline.
Discounted previews are Wednesday and Thursday, with regular performances Tuesdays-Saturdays, all at 7:30 p.m. There is also one Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13. Tickets are $12 for general admission or $9 for BYU students, faculty and staff (378-4322).
"CLUE: THE MUSICAL," marking the Utah premiere of the musical version of the comedy, will be the first production in the new Alpine Playhouse, 81 S. 100 West, Alpine. Play dates are Friday through Nov. 20.
Based on the popular Parker Bros. board game, this musical which most recently played in San Francisco has 216 possible endings, depending on who did it, which room the crime took place in and which weapon is used.
