Former 2nd Congressional District candidate Tim Bridgewater endorsed his Republican primary opponent John Swallow on Friday, Bridgewater said Monday.

A profile story on Swallow in Monday's Deseret Morning News said Bridgewater had not endorsed his GOP primary opponent this year. Swallow said early last week, at the time of the interview, he had not yet received such an endorsement.

Bridgewater said he endorsed Swallow in a speech before the Sutherland Institute, a conservative think tank. Bridgewater said he also endorsed Swallow in 2002, after losing a close primary to him then.

Bridgewater said he decided to endorse Swallow this year after incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson began running TV ads quoting Bridgewater criticizing Swallow, quotes made during the GOP primary races.
