As an opponent of same-sex "marriage," I openly admit that my opposition is out of fear. John Wuthrich ("Fear is behind opposition," Readers' Forum, Oct. 22) says that divorce destroys the sacredness of our families. Divorce can also be blamed for the many single-parent and stepfamily households that statistics show account for much of the poverty and crime in our society.
If such a relatively small deviation from the norm of a man and woman united as husband and wife raising their own children like divorce can wreak such havoc on society, I am afraid to see the destructive influence that even further deviations from the norm may have.
