Richard Leray, manuscript illuminator from France, will lecture on "The Art of Illumination" Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Weber State University. It will be in the Lindquist Lecture Hall, Room 120, of the Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center (2001 University Circle, Ogden).

Utah State University will host visiting ceramic artist Walter Ostrom in a lecture Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center, Room 216. Ostrom, who is on campus as part of the art department's Visiting Artist Program, is professor of ceramics at the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design. He will show slides and discuss his work. Salt Lake Art Center, 20 S. West Temple, will host another Art Talks Wednesday at 7 p.m. George Quasha, poet, publisher and video artist, will discuss the work of Gary Hill, whose installation is currently on display in the center. The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 322-4323.

Salt Lake County is soliciting proposals from qualified artists and designers to participate in an open competition for works of art to be installed at the Draper and South Jordan libraries. Request proposals will be available Monday and a pre-proposal meeting will be Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Whitmore Library Auditorium (2197 E. Fort Union). The Utah Museum of Fine Arts will host another of its Fine Arts Lectures Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the museum's Dumke Auditorium. Local photographers and photography experts will discuss the photographs of Craig Pozzi, whose work is on display in the museum. On Saturday at 2 p.m. the film "America: Walker Evans" will be shown in the Dumke Auditorium. The 57-minute documentary profiles Evans, one of America's great photographers and inspiration for Pozzi.

The Salt Lake Arts Council will host a public meeting at the Art Barn (1325 E. 100 South) Wednesday at 7 p.m. to announce three new opportunities in Salt Lake City's public art program. Interested artists are invited to attend for details on the projects. For more information call the council at 596-5000.
