Judge Memorial's Samantha Gaffney defended her title in 3A, winning at 18:22.6. She dominated her division all yearlong and helped the Lady Bulldogs to a third-place finish. But it was the Park City Miners who once again won the title with a comfortable 20-point win over Cedar. Sophomores Elli Reed and Rosie Brennan finished second and third respectively for coach Bill Kahn's team, with freshman Alyssa Vonputtkammer fifth. Junior Devery Karz was 11th and senior Holly Simeon 12th for Park City. Cedar's Cassie Westfall and Kindal Ericson were sixth and seventh, while Wasatch freshman Kaylee Collins took fourth.

Sophomore Alexi Phillips and junior Taeler McKay took the top two places in the 2A race to lead Juan Diego to first-ever glory. Juan Diego also won the boys' title on Wednesday. Phillips was the only runner to break the 20-minute mark at 19:49.9. The Soaring Eagle had all five scoring runners in the top 23. Enterprise senior Sharla Platt took third to help her team to a second-place finish. Defending champ Richfield was fifth.

Waterford continued its climb to the top of 1A, building on last year's fourth-place finish with a victory over Wayne. Freshman Summer Tillotson took fourth overall, behind medalist Kandice Ellett of Wayne, Manila's Natasha McCullough and Wayne's Ashley Pace. Coach Troy Jones had five runners in the top 15, including seniors Donya Mohebali and Sarah Newhall, and juniors Liz Calder and Annie Judd.

"The girls worked very hard, they improved all year and really came together today," he said. Waterford loses just Mohebali and Newhall among its top seven runners and should be a contender again next fall.

Despite the constant rain, most of this year's times were faster than last year's, when unseasonably warm temperatures left some runners drained and a few actually collapsed. That wasn't the problem on Wednesday, where runners sloshed through temperatures in the high 40s.
