WEST VALLEY CITY In their three games so far, the all-new Phoenix Coyote-sponsored, red-uniformed Utah Grizzlies have been a lot like last year's green-clad team whose players came from the Dallas Stars.
They've been going the wrong way on a one-way street.
In their opener a week ago, they led three times only to lose in a double shootout. They lost in regulation time by the same score, 4-3, in their second game and then got whipped 6-1 at San Antonio on Saturday.
Tonight at 7 in the E Center, the Grizz start a two-game series against the Manchester Monarchs, who've been their opposite. Manchester is 2-0-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 12-5, led by five goals and an assist by center Yanick Lehoux, who's taken only six shots. He ranks fourth in the AHL but has played half the games of those ahead of him. Three other Monarchs have four points each and are tied for 13th in league scoring.
Defenseman Matthew Spiller is Utah's only multiple-goal scorer with two, and defenseman Joe Callahan is the team's plus-minus leader at plus-2.
Utah and Manchester have a rematch Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Manchester has been the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings since 2001-02, but Utah is designated the home team for the game.
