To view the current bid for the Barry Bonds ball, or to enter a bid, go to www.overstock.com.

Other famous baseballs that brought big bucks include:

• The ball for Mark McGwire's 70th home run, at the time baseball's single-season record, sold for more than $3 million ($2.7 million plus the auction commission) in 1999. That was nearly three times the expected auction amount.

• Bonds' 73rd home run ball, setting a new single-season tally, went for $517,500 ($450,000 plus commissions) in 2001. It had been expected to rake in between $1 million and $2 million.

• The ball mishandled by Chicago Cubs fan Steve Bartman nabbed $113,824 ($106,600 plus commissions). It subsequently was blown up by its new owners, hoping that would end the Cubs' curse.

• Sammy Sosa's 500th career homer ball sold for $44,823 last year.
