Salt Lake County attorneys concluded Monday that:

• The attempted certification of Ellis Ivory as the Republican candidate was not legally done (but the party is expected to properly certify him in time for the Nov. 2 election to get his name on the ballot).

• Mayor Nancy Workman's doctor's note, which accompanied her official withdrawal from the race, was legally sufficient to allow the party to replace her on the ballot.

• If Ivory is certified as the GOP candidate, write-in votes placed for him to date would be counted. However, write-in votes placed for him on a ballot on which his name appears as the GOP candidate would be rejected.

• Votes for Workman — absentee or regular — will be rejected and will not be transferred to Ivory.
