Employees: 5,287 (seventh-highest concentration of industry employees in the country)

Annual employee earnings: $195.2 million

Total of direct and related employment: 22,200

Annual direct economic impact: $330.5 million

Annual total economic impact: $701.4 million

Annual local and state taxes: $52 million

Annual federal taxes: $142.6 million

Projected direct employment by 2014: 8,370

Projected direct job growth rate through 2014: 50.5 percent, third-highest among states

Projected direct and related employment by 2014: 35,128

Nationally, the biopharmaceutical sector employs 406,000 people directly and results in 2.7 million jobs overall, has a direct economic impact of nearly $64 billion and a total economic impact of $132.3 billion.
