SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Police on Wednesday night recovered a 3-year-old boy allegedly abducted by his father, who had reportedly threatened to kill himself and the boy.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department had issued an Amber Alert for Chaseten Martinez at 8 p.m. By about 9:20 p.m., word was in that the boy was safe and his father, Timothy S. Martinez, 22, had been taken into custody without incident.
Martinez has not yet been charged with any crime.
Sheriff Aaron Kennard said there was no car chase, and officers apprehend him when he pulled into a West Jordan driveway. It was originally believed that Martinez was headed to California.
The Amber Alert system is a partnership between the media and law enforcement community that links local and state authorities with media outlets when a child in the state is abducted.
