Beth Worthington

Lehi Pioneers

Sport: Soccer

Class: Senior

Position: Goalie

The numbers: The Pioneers goaltender is one of the state's best, and certainly her numbers suggest Worthington is the Class 3A's top goalie. In leading Lehi to the Region 8 title she has nine shutouts, tops in Class 3A soccer, and has the lowest goals-against average — 0.64 per game — of any Class 3A school and among the top five of all schools. Worthington is a physical player, with excellent anticipation and reaction. "Beth performs best in pressure situations and rises up to the level of competition and the importance of the match," coach Brett Bergholm said.

Nate Jones

Orem Tigers

Sport: Football

Class: Senior

Position: Quarterback

The numbers: The Region 7 first-place Tigers seem to go as Jones goes. He is a double threat to run or pass, and his passing efficiency has improved greatly over the season. In last week's 38-21 win over Timpanogos, Jones threw for 150 yards and rushed for 160 yards. His three touchdown tosses were a career high and one of the Tigers' best aerial showings in years. His three scoring passes — of 44 yards, 20 yards and five yards — matched his season total. "He did a lot better job of staying in the pocket and waiting until his receivers were open," coach Robert Steele said.
