I believe that Utah's best days are ahead of us, and I will work to ensure that our children's future is a bright and prosperous future. I have real solutions to the problems we face, and I will be an effective advocate for solving those problems. We need someone in Washington who will put Utah's needs first, not partisanship. Throughout my life, including my service as attorney general, I have worked with people from both parties to solve problems and represent the people of Utah. I will establish that same dynamic in the Senate, where the needs and concerns of the people of Utah will always be my priorities.

19. Why should voters not pick your opponent? For example, does he lack experience, education, vision, does he bring conflicts of interest, etc.?

My opponent has been in Washington too long and done too little. He has failed to address the critical issues that we face, and has abandoned Utah values by voting for bloated budget deficits, the resumption of nuclear testing, putting partisan politics and special interests ahead of Utah's needs. From filing taxes on a postcard to voting against pay raises, he broke almost every promise he made. In fact, 12 years ago, he promised that he would only serve two terms. That's one promise the people of Utah can help him keep by voting for a new senator, Paul Van Dam, on November 2.

20. What is your greatest nonpolitical achievement?

My greatest achievement in life is my family — my wife, Mary Dawn, and my children Michael and Julie.
