12. As you know, having Hill Air Force Base closed would be a great blow to Utah's economy. What will you do specifically to help keep the base open?

I strongly support a delay in the Base Realignment and Closure process. In light of the current realignment plan and the ongoing worldwide war on terror, a delay makes sense and would prevent the closure of Hill Air Force Base. As senator, keeping Hill Air Force Base open will be one of my top priorities. At the same time, I realize that most of the credit for keeping the base open goes to the hard-working men and women who consistently make Hill one of the most efficient, productive, and well-run Air Force bases in the country. As long as they continue to achieve these outstanding results and perform their vital work, Hill Air Force Base should remain open. In the United States Senate, I will devote myself to representing Utahns and keeping the base open.

13. Wilderness has become the black hole of Utah/federal politics. While a few state inholdings have been traded out for other federal lands, which can now be developed, what will you do to move the wilderness issue forward?

Story continues below
Throughout my career, I have taken a bipartisan approach to solving problems and will take that same approach to develop a workable plan for designating wilderness areas. I will bring together people from different sides of the issue and facilitate an active discussion to solve the problem. The public also needs to play a large role in any agreement, and an appropriate public process needs to occur before designating any area as wilderness.

14. Do you favor or oppose No Child Left Behind? If you don't favor it, would you support plain repeal, or short of that how can it be fixed?
