Constructed from 1863-1867, the Salt Lake Tabernacle — a National Historic Landmark — has hosted meetings for 137 years on Temple Square. It is home to the 350-voice Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The project includes:

• A seismic retrofit, to begin in January. The building's famous oval pioneer dome will be more securely fastened to its masonry walls and the foundation strengthened.

• Dressing rooms, restrooms and a library will be added for the choir.

• Currently accommodating 4,500 people, as many as 1,000 seats could be eliminated.

• The project is slated to be completed by mid-2006. No cost estimate is as yet available.
