Big critters herald big show

Madison Peterson, 4, waves to elephants of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus on Thursday as they parade near The Gateway on a nice day in Salt Lake City. The elephants finished their walk at the Delta Center, where they got a high-pressure shower from the Salt Lake City Fire Department. The circus opened Thursday evening at the Delta Center and will run through Sunday. Animal-rights protesters used the occasion to express their concerns about the treatment of circus animals.
