WEST JORDAN — One man was arrested and police were looking for one other following a high-speed chase that started in West Jordan early Monday.

The 15-minute chase, which reached speeds close to 100 mph, started near 6900 South and 2100 West and ended near 4500 South and 900 East.

Just after 1 a.m. a West Jordan police officer spotted a suspicious vehicle without a license plate driving slowly around a neighborhood, said West Jordan police Capt. Gary Cox.

As the officer attempted to pull the car over it took off, Cox said. During the chase one of the occupants of the vehicle threw two handguns out the window. Officers later recovered the guns and determined one of them was stolen, Cox said.

The 28-year-old driver eventually pulled over and surrendered. He was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of fleeing and possession of a stolen firearm. Another man fled from the car after it had stopped. Detectives were still looking for that person Monday.

Two others in the back seat of the car were questioned and released by police, although Cox said charges could be filed at a later time.

Items that had recently been burglarized out of vehicles, such as cell phones, were also found in the car as well as items that Cox said would clear some forgery cases.
