Japan Airlines Corp.'s regional unit Japan Transocean Air said it canceled five flights today to avoid Typhoon Meari, this year's 21st storm.
Japan Transocean canceled the flights to and from southern Japan's Okinawa, said airline spokesman Kenichi Kobori in Tokyo. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways Co. said they will operate normally today.
The typhoon was located at 150 kilometers (93 miles) north- northwest of southwestern Japan's Miyako Island as of 8 a.m. Japan time, packing winds of up to 144 kilometers an hour, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on its Web site.
