Davis School District has unanimously approved a new reading plan under Gov. Olene Walker's K-3 Reading Improvement Program, created by SB230.
The school board also agreed to purchase SuccessMaker, a computer-based learning program featuring reading, math and science.
The integrated learning system will help pinpoint and identify specific deficits individual students have in reading. The math and science portions of SuccessMaker will be used in other facets of teaching.
District business administrator Bruce Williams said 70 percent of the funding for the $2.7 million learning system will come from the K-3 reading monies $366,000 per year for five years.
But the majority of the district's reading initiative money will be spent on reading teachers and literacy coaches for individualized learning. The rest will go to professional development and supplies.
