Sorensen also resigned from his position. He was charged by Yocom's office and pleaded guilty to third-degree felony attempted misuse of public funds in August. It was part of a plea agreement that also included Sorensen's agreeing to repay the county $8,600 as restitution for gas he was not authorized to use.

Curtis was accused of accepting reimbursement for car expenses from the Utah Legislature, where he's the majority leader of the House, for his county-issued car. He resigned from his county job and repaid the Legislature $767 but was not charged.

Allen was not surprised by Tuesday's charges, his attorney said, because both men were aware of the investigation.

Yocom said he opted not to file criminal charges in connection to the Lake Powell trips because they were condoned by Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman and her administration, he said.

"The personal use of the vehicle, we didn't feel applied because it was condoned," he said. "They were obviously not restricting the use of the vehicles under the policy."

Yocom has charged Workman with two counts of misusing public funds, one a second-degree felony and the other a third-degree felony, for allegedly using county funds to pay for staff at the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Valley.
