PROVO The Utah County Commission voted Tuesday to reduce the county tax on restaurant food from 1.0 to .09 percent, or a 10-cent reduction on a $10 bill.
Commissioners Jerry Grover and Steve White agreed that the change is appropriate and the loss of $250,000 annually will be made up by a new tax imposed recently on the rental of cars.
Commissioner Gary Herbert was not at the meeting.
Grover said restaurant owners in the area have indicated they welcome anything that improves their ability to offer a good value.
