And while dropping Moore would thrill those crying for a cancellation, the school would lose money because it would still have to pay Moore, due to contractual obligations.

The possibility that conservative radio talk-show host Sean Hannity may come to speak following Moore's appearance makes Vreeland happy — but won't change his stance. Hannity's visit would satisfy President William Sederburg's request that Moore's visit be balanced by an opposing viewpoint before the Nov. 2 general election.

But some students, such as sophomore Nolan Johanssen, think Moore's visit will be a pleasant respite from "a constant barrage of conservative viewpoints."

"I'm not going to sign any (petitions) because I don't think anyone did anything wrong," he said. "It's not like what Michael Moore says is going to change my ideology or religion. It's time that Utah was receptive to all voices, even if they stand in opposition to what the majority might believe. I think he'll be refreshing."
