Left & right jabs: Workman controversy

District Attorney Yocom's pompous superiority and partisan political grandstanding in proceedings with Mayor Workman is very evident and hurts the democratic process.

The efforts of Republican officials to dismiss Workman's conduct is an insult to the party.

In a recent article, law professor Erik Luna was quoted as saying that if Mayor Nancy Workman were convicted of a felony, she would be permanently barred from voting. That is not accurate. Utah law provides that a person who has been convicted of a felony may not register to vote unless their right to vote has been restored by law.

Regarding: Nancy Workman's rational that she misused public funds in pursuit of the better good. Does that mean I can go to a grocery store, load up a basket of groceries, not pay for them, and tell the arresting officer I'm not guilty because I took them to donate to the food bank?

A political TV ad "paid for by friends of Nancy Workman" says she was trying to do "the right thing." Please call it what it is: lying, stealing and criminal.

I'm disappointed to see a culture that judges guilt from accusation alone. Mayor Workman is innocent until proven guilty.

Nancy Workman wants the court to move her case forward since it is close to the election and forget about what the docket of the court system has programmed. Why?

Because she is mayor!

Please.

Isn't anyone going to play the gender card? The guys at the county don't like having a sassy lady boss.

If Workman had admitted up front that she was in error and made appropriate restitution, it would have turned in to a non-issue.

As it is, her continued protestations and inane ad campaign make me wonder how we could ever have elected her in the first place.
