If the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce is embarrassed by homeless people occupying benches in the open spaces of The Gateway, the Chamber ought to search for effective solutions to the causes of homelessness.
The idea of moving The Road Home, the Catholic Community Services' soup kitchen, and the 4th Street Clinic away from their current locations is heartless, to say the least.
As long as there are homeless men, women and children in our midst, and visible in or near The Gateway, the goal of the Chamber of Commerce, and of all community leaders and citizens, should be to reduce the number of homeless people not to push them somewhere out of sight.
