KSL (AM-1160) has moved ahead of sister station KSFI ("FM-100") after the first month of the summer Arbitron ratings.

"FM-100" had topped the "Spring" ratings book, released the end of July, for ages 12-plus with a 7.1 percent share, but apparently listeners had more of an appetite for news and talk radio than adult contemporary music during August. While KSL pushed up 0.1 percent, KSFI dropped 0.8 percent to 6.2 percent.

KUBL (FM-93.3) remained third with a 6.1 percent audience share and KNRS-AM (570) moved ahead of KXRK ("X-96") to fourth with a 5.6 share.

Spanish music on KDUT (FM-102.3) slipped from 11th to 15th with a 2.7 percent audience share.

Here is part one of the summer book ratings:

1. KSL-AM (7.1); 2. KSFI (6.2); 3. KUBL (6.1); 4. KNRS-AM (5.6); 5. KXRK (4.5); 6. (tie) KODJ and KSOP (4.4); 8. (tie) KRSP and KZHT (3.9); 10. KQMB (3.3).

11. KBER (3.2); 12. KBEE (3.0); 13. (tie) KHBT and KUUU/KTCE/KRAR (2.8); 15. KDUT (2.7); 16. KOSY (2.4); 17. (tie) KBZN and KEGA (2.2); 19. KURR (2.1); 20. (tie) KCPX, KDYL-AM and KENZ (1.7).

23. KUDD (1.5); 24. (tie) KALL-AM and KZNS/KOVO-AM (1.2); 26. (tie) KJQN and KPQP (1.1); 28. KSGO (0.8); 29. KLO-AM (0.7); 30. (tie) KBJA-AM and KFNZ-AM (0.6).

STUCK IN "HELL"? — I have an ultra-tiny FM radio receiver, but as its batteries wore down recently, it became stuck on one station. Even if you forced it to move ahead on the dial to the next station, one tiny vibration would push it back to that same station.

What station? It was KXRK ("X-96"), which means the "Radio From Hell" show is all I could pick up in the mornings.

RADIO HAPPENINGSKSOP (FM-104.3) plays two hours of 1980s country music weekdays starting at 8 p.m.

KUER (FM-90.1) has added "Speaking of Faith" to its Sunday schedule, airing each week from 11 a.m. -noon. The show is an hourlong conversation about beliefs, ethics, ideas and meaning. Each week guests explore themes of American life, asking how perspectives of faith might inform and illuminate public reflection. It is hosted by journalist and former diplomat Krista Tippett.

"Grant and Amanda" of KSL will be at the American Gift Gallery in the University Mall today, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Amanda Dickson will speak to parents and families on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Kidney Camp, part of the National Kidney Foundation of Utah.
