Provo hung tough through three quarters Friday night, but visiting Timpanogos blew it open behind two long fourth-quarter touchdown runs by senior Alex Lyons for a 31-7 victory.

"I think we just wore them down," Lyons said. "We're in good shape; we've been working hard. When we run the ball, we just keep it pounding and it wears the defense down."

In the fourth quarter, Lyons stretched the Timpanogos lead to 21-7 when he raced around the right end for a 35-yard touchdown scamper with 11:03 left in the game.

Provo drove to the Timpanogos 12-yard line on its next possession, but a fourth-down pass from sophomore quarterback Warner Jarman fell incomplete. Lyons put the game out of reach by running 89 yards for another touchdown.

"I got through the line of scrimmage and there was this huge hole," Lyons said. "I just waited for my blockers and then it was open field."

Provo enjoyed good field position in the early going. After the Bulldogs returned the opening kickoff to their 47-yard line, Jarman led the offense to a first-and-goal on Timpanogos' 7-yard line. The Timpanogos defense held firm, however, and the game remained scoreless when Provo's Danny Bell missed a 27-yard field goal. After a Timpanogos punt, the Bulldogs began their next possession on their opponents' 40. Sabotaged by a personal foul penalty, Provo was unable to secure a first down and subsequently punted the ball back to the Timberwolves. Senior Jerrit Lui led Timpanogos on an eight-play, 92-yard touchdown drive. The stocky fullback bowled over Bulldog defenders en route to runs of 22 and 20 yards. Lui capped the drive by bulldozing his way into the end zone from four yards out.

On their next drive, the Timberwolves converted on key third- and fourth-down plays. A 16-yard pass from Nate Fullmer to Austin Heaps on third-and-12 and an 18-yard run by Lyons on fourth-and-4 set Fullmer up for a 1-yard quarterback keeper touchdown.

With just more than three minutes remaining in the half, Provo decided to be aggressive instead of running out the clock. The Bulldogs gained 20 yards apiece on two consecutive plays, a rush by Taylor Orton and a reception by Rob Argyle. On a broken play, Jarman scrambled and then threw across the field to Chad D'Haenens for a 25-yard gain down to the Timpanogos 1-yard line. Argyle dove into the end zone on the next play for a 1-yard touchdown run.
