SANDY — A woman was in critical condition but stable condition at LDS Hospital Wednesday night after she was hit while walking with four other family members.

Two adult women, two children and a baby in a stroller were walking east along 9000 South about 9:30 p.m. They turned north on 700 West and walked on the east side of the street, where there were no lights or sidewalk, Sandy Police Lt. Craig Watson said.

A van also turned off 9000 South to travel north on 700 West. A father was driving and his son noticed the group first and shouted. The father swerved but hit the woman, who is about 50 years old, Watson said.

The woman received head injuries, Watson said. She was airlifted to the hospital.
