This letter is in response to Stephen Jones' letter claiming that graduates of the "closed-minded" local private LDS principle-based schools will be less prepared for college than graduates of public schools.
He mentioned that the "no assigned homework" policy was particularly damaging in that it neglects the formation of good study and time-management habits.
I am a graduate of Kimber Academy and recently completed my first semester at UVSC with straight A's. I found that I took to college like a fish to water. The Kimber Academy's homework policy is commonly misunderstood. While homework is not assigned, it is very strongly encouraged.
I spent over 12 hours a day for three weeks straight writing my 100-something-page thesis and the rest of my waking hours studying to pass the difficult graduation test.
As for the label of "closed minded" given to the schools, all I have to say is: I studied Marx and Darwin at Kimber Academy but never once did I study the doctrines of any major religion at public school.
