Scalley, Dodds plan to play

Utah coach Urban Meyer expects Morgan Scalley and Corey Dodds to play in the season opener against Texas A&M despite missing practice after suffering injuries on Friday.

Scalley's bruised right shin and Dodds' sprained left ankle required elevation and kept the starting defenders off the field Saturday. Both players, who were present for the Ute Fan Fest and team picture later in the day, will likely be sidelined until at least Tuesday.

"We're being very cautious because you don't want any complications," said Meyer.

Dodds, who has an x-ray scheduled for Monday, insists he'll do whatever it takes to play Thursday — even if it's still painful. The linebacker said he's played with a broken bone before.

Scalley, who played in every game last season despite knee surgery prior to facing the Team Down South, is equally confident.

"It's just a bruised shin. It happens there in practice. It feels tight right now but I'll be fine," said Scalley, who'll follow the medical staff's advice to keep it elevated and stay off of it. "If I can play after knee surgery then I can certainly do this."

Meyer agrees.

"I know who Morgan Scalley is," he said. "You'd have to shoot him to keep him out of the lineup."
